Abstract

This manuscript presents the thermal analysis and experimental results of a directly heated helical cathode used in CW magnetrons. A helical thoriated tungsten helical cathode for 15kW CW magnetron operating at 2.45 GHz has been designed and characterized. After temperature profiling and V-I characteristic measurement the helical cathode has been integrated in the actual magnetron for the emission testing. The required amount of anode current has been drawn and the tube has performed as per the simulation results. A CW output of about 6.2 KW has been achieved with a operating frequency of 2.45±0.050 GHz.
